My happy fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Worzalla, taught us that a smile uses fewer muscles than a frown.
Why that sticks in my mind all these years later I don’t know. I do know I’ve been smiling so much lately. Half the time I don’t realize it. Like just now, sitting alone at Starbucks, I was watching the Budweiser Clydesdale Super Bowl commercial on my Mac and realized all my teeth were showing.
Then there was the Super Bowl game Sunday that just gave me a happy heart all the way through.
Recently, two funny shows on TV had me laugh-crying.
Never mind the antics of my grandchildren. Maybe I have lots of well-earned wrinkles and gray hair - but I think they were NOT from troubles as much as laughter.
I thank God for joy.
“A happy heart makes the face cheerful,” – Proverbs 15:13
I love this old (very old) Jimmy Durante song. Sing with me:
Smile though your heart is aching, Smile even though it's breaking, When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by, If you smile through your fear and sorrow, Smile and maybe tomorrow, You'll see the sun come shining through for you [Verse 2] Light up your face with gladness, Hide every trace of sadness, Although a tear may be ever so near, That's the time you must keep on trying, Smile, what's the use of crying? You'll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile. (Copied as written in lyrics on You Tube.)
Okay, okay - I hear you out there. Yes, we need healing tears, too. But this smiling stuff is good medicine!
Thank you! He is indeed!
Your grandson is sweet
